Opened in September 2005, the Sharon Information Center and Vermont Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial replaces a small roadside information center with a modern facility including geothermal heating and cooling and a “Living Machine” greenhouse-enclosed wastewater recycling system. In addition to the standard roadside information, restrooms and information desk, the building provides display area for local veterans groups and an “Honorial” honoring all Vermonters who served in the Vietnam War. The Veterans’ Memorial, shown in the lower image, is an amphitheater of semicircular stone walls encircling a memorial obelisk, originally placed in 1978 as the first state Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in the U.S.
